Quiet Noise, Sacred Space: The Soundscape of Denison (2007)

This was a group project–the culmination of a sound art course I taught as artist-in-residence at Scripps College (read more about the residency). The exhibition took place in two reading rooms of the historic Denison Library on Scripps campus and was designed to showcase, reflect, and amplify the normally "quiet" sounds of the library space.

   (2006-2008)

Favorite Chicago Sounds is a collaborative web-based project designed to showcase unique audio portraits of Chicago and mirror what Chicagoans think about their city's soundscape. The site houses a catalog of submissions from the community, many of which have been recorded and published online as MP3s.

FCS was featured last summer as part of Pedagogical Factory, an interactive educational program co-sponsored by the Stockyard Institute and Hyde Park Art Center.

Here Again (2004-2007)

Here Again is an ongoing sound-based story told in sequential installments. Individual MP3 tracks range from 1-6 minutes each.

Listening through headphones is strongly encouraged. The work is meant to be experienced privately. Subtlety and intimacy will be lost by listening in a group setting and/or through a set of speakers.

  Missed (2005)

Missed was inspired by Dan Chaon's short story Prosthesis. It was originally heard as part of the collective event An Evening with Dan Chaon at OpenSource in which Chaon performed a reading of his story. Prosthesis appears in Chaon's book Among the Missing, which was a finalist for the 2001 National Book Award.

Please read Prosthesis before listening to the piece–it is meant to be experienced after having read the story.
