• Between Two Worlds - Zainab Salbi
An astonishing memoir written by a woman who grew up in the shadow of Saddam Hussein–the daughter of his personal pilot. Now living in the U.S. in exile,
Salbi is a global activist on behalf of women survivors of war through her organization Women for Women International.
• Indefensible - David Fiege
True story that chronicles a day in Feige's life as a former South Bronx public defender. Captivating reading. Sheds light on the many shortcomings of the criminal justice system. Frustrating, sad, at times shocking, but in the end inspires hope and gratitude that Fiege and others like him are doing righteous work.

Movies
• The Up Series - This series began in 1964 with Seven Up, which documents a group of British 7-year-olds from widely ranging social backgrounds being interviewed about a range of subjects. Every seven years, the group has been interviewed again to show how their lives and attitudes have changed.
• Battlestar Galactica - Okay, not a movie. But it's the best show on TV, hands-down. Based on the 1978 mini-series in which the last remnants of humankind defend themselves against robot Cylons while in search of the fabled planet Earth. You need not be a sci-fi fan to get hooked into the characters and ever-twisting plot.
