Grades for assignments, unless otherwise noted, are determined according to the following considerations:
  • Fulfillment of production requirements and adherence to assignment topic
  • Technical proficiency - properly developed and well exposed negatives, well printed contact sheets, appropriate exposure and contrast of prints, proper focus of subject matter in prints, cleanliness of prints (absence of water spots, dust, scratches, etc.), tidiness of final presentation
  • Form - physical characteristics (shape, line, value, composition, etc.) and extent to which they inform the content of the photographs and project as a whole
  • Concept - idea beyond the form, the frame, and that which is literal and tangible within the photograph; clarity with which and extent to which this idea is defined by the artist and effectively communicated in the work
  • Creativity - originality and experimentation in approach to subject matter and project as a whole
