Artist Residency --- Feb-Mar 07 "Writing with Sound: Aural Storytelling in Digital Times"
In the winter of '07, I paid a visit to Scripps College in Claremont, California as the annual Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence. The residency focused on promoting sound as a viable artistic and narrative medium and sharing my knowledge and insights as an artist working in sound.
Listen to the keynote address I gave at the college's Tuesday Noon Academy lecture series. I discussed the trajectory of my artistic path and how I arrived at sound, having been trained as a "visual" artist. I also talked about some recent projects (Here Again, Rocking, Your Favorite Chicago Sounds).
I also had the honor of contributing in other capacities:
--- Discussion leader for the short story "Persistence of Vision" (by science fiction author John Varley) in the course Possible Worlds from Antiquity to Modern Times
--- Guest advisor to advanced creative writing students in the course The Little Magazine --- Panelist on the theme "Sound and Image" in the course Women In Music
--- Guest lecturer on the theme "Podcasting Demystified" in the course Introduction to Media Studies
--- Guest lecturer on the theme
"Sound and Image: Concept and Technique" in the course Advanced Video
--- Guest critic to studio art majors preparing for senior thesis exhibition
Many thanks to Scripps for this unique opportunity.
